News Around Town: Last Week of September 2023
We used to write a column when we lived in the DC area entitled “News Around Town.” It was never intended to be a complete calendar, but rather things we might personally be interested in attending, or events we thought would be of interest to others.
As the crisp autumn air settles in and colors start to change around the area, Medina is gearing up for a weekend filled with exciting events and activities. Whether you like this season for football, beer tastings, music, or just the feeling, this upcoming weekend in Medina promises to have something for everyone. Here’s your guide to the fantastic lineup of events this weekend:
Friday Night: Medina Mustangs Homecoming Game September 29, 7PM, Kickoff Location: Vets Park
Start your weekend off with a burst of energy as the Medina Mustangs take on their opponents in the much-anticipated homecoming football game. Cheer on the local team, enjoy the vibrant school spirit, and relish the excitement of a Friday night under the lights. It’s a fantastic way to kickstart the weekend and show your support for the home team.
Saturday: The Author’s Note Turns 2 September 30, 10AM – 6PM, Location: Author’s Note Bookstore, 519 Main Street
Happy 2-year anniversary to the Author’s Note bookstore! Music and a special book signing (Renee Lama’s – LAST CALL from 1PM-3PM) will highlight the event.
Saturday: Ale in Autumn (SOLD OUT) September 30, 1PM – 3PM start times, Location: Medina Senior Center, 615 West Ave.
Saturday offers the perfect blend of flavors and entertainment. The Medina Area Partnership presents “Ale in Autumn,” a beer/cider tasting event that showcases a combination of exciting and unique offerings. Raise your glass, savor the brews, and explore several downtown businesses who are participating.
While you’re downtown, don’t miss the Busker Festival. As you move between stops you’ll be entertained by impressive performers along the way. It’s the perfect opportunity to stroll through Medina’s charming streets and soak in the creative ambiance.
Saturday Night: Boxwood Cemetery After Dark Walk September 30, 7-8PM and 8-9PM, Location: Boxwood Cemetery, Medina, NY
As the sun sets, embrace the spooky season with the Boxwood Cemetery After Dark Walk. Join a guided tour through this historic cemetery and uncover the stories of Medina’s past residents. With lanterns casting eerie shadows and tales of local legends, it’s an enchanting and spine-tingling experience that’s not to be missed.
Saturday Night: Shirt Factory September 30, 3PM – 10PM, Location: Shirt Factory, Medina, NY
After two months, I’ll be back behind the bar at the Shirt Factory. Stop by, hang out and drink some fall cocktails. I’ll personally vouch for them, since Chris and I put together the menu a couple weeks ago. No bias here ;)
Sunday Football Fever: Bills vs. Dolphins Sunday, October 1, 1PM Location: Local bars or your cozy couch
The Miami Dolphins can’t really score 70 points in back-to-back weeks, right? Josh Allen seems due for a big game and hopefully the defense plays like they did in Washington. Bills by a billion…or just 1 would be fine, too.
Medina truly knows how to shine this weekend, offering a diverse range of events that cater to everyone; whether you’re looking for sports excitement, a taste of local brews, street artistry, spooky tales, or football thrills, this weekend has it all. Gather your friends and family and get ready to make memories in the heart of Medina.
Do you have an event coming up? Let us know and we’ll do our best to include it in a future News Around Town.
