We’ve been slow to get any News Around Town posts out in the last couple of weeks, but now that August is here it seems things are happening all over the place. Between openings and specials, there is plenty to keep us all busy before fall and football arrive.

All Month:

It’s National Coffee Month! Mio Restaurant is celebrating all month, with four a la carte menu options to celebrate one of our favorite beans.

If you’re looking for a staycation to finish up your summer, Avenue Suites is offering specials through the middle of September worth checking out. For those of you thinking about your 4-legged friend, it’s OK because Avenue Suites is pet-friendly.

August is restaurant month at Grillfish? We almost couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw this headline either. In the spirit of DC’s Restaurant Week that occurs this month, Grillfish has decided to go above and beyond and is offering an entire month of lunch and dinner specials. Additionally, they are unveiling a new happy hour menu, which includes $5.50 special cocktails and beers for under $6.

Lucky Strike has created the Spicy Sweet Summer Burger to be served at all locations through August. If the name didn’t do it for me already, hearing it was stuffed with mozzarella cheese and involved jalapenos certainly did!

Sunday:

Football is officially back! It’s not the regular season by any means, but for all those football fans the preseason begins tonight. Make sure to have a notebook handy for all those obsessed with fantasy sports, or head out to your favorite sports bar to watch with friends.

Openings and Re-openings:

The Passion Food Restaurant Group is at it again, with the opening of Penn Commons next to the Verizon Center. An American-style tavern that is the sister to the already successful District Commons restaurant. We’ll be checking it out later this month, so stay tuned!

Ashok Bajaj’s Oval Room is also set to reopen on Monday after a complete renovation, which includes a new menu and theme. The descriptions sound amazing along with word that there will be 4-course fixed menu offering.
