News Around Town: DC Beer and Alexandria Restaurants
With the upcoming week being filled with both events for DC Beer Week and Alexandria’s Restaurant Week there is plenty to keep us all busy. The schedules tied to these two events are certainly not all the area has to offer this coming week, as many other restaurants are offering special deals running through the remainder of August.
Both DC Beer Week and Alexandria’s Restaurant Week run all week, take a look at the many events going on and then plan some trips to each. We’re still working on our current schedule next week but hope to participate in both. If you’re not going to make it out of DC remember that Grillfish is offering their restaurant week deals all month long.
Monday is full of activities to partake in, starting with EatWell DC’s Restaurateurs will host their 3rd Annual Dining Out with the Dogs, running from 5 p.m. until close to benefit the City Dogs Rescue. Commissary, Grillfish, Logan Tavern, The Heights, and The Pig will all donate 15% of dinner sales to the organization that works to rescue adoptable dogs in overcrowded and high kill shelters throughout DC. When attending one of these restaurants, because we know you will, order the feature vodka cocktail that will see 100% of proceeds donated to the City Dogs Rescue. Partnering with EatWell Restaurants is American Harvest. Dogs are welcome to join you at Commissary, Grillfish, Logan Tavern, and The Heights’ patios. Be on the lookout for some other adorable guests, since adoptable dogs will be greeting guests.
On Monday, we’re finally going to check out Penn Quarter’s newest restaurant, Penn Commons. After loving our date night at District Commons a couple months ago, we’re really looking forward to checking out it’s sister restaurant. A recap will follow sometime this.
Tuesdays in August Blue Duck Tavern is presenting a real treat for wine lovers, with their pourings of specially selected rare magnums of featured Cabernet Sauvignon that are not found on the restaurant’s wine list. The next four weeks will showcase Napa Valley Cabs from the 1980’s, the four-ounce pours can be purchased for $30 each. Is this really an opportunity you can pass up?
Throughout August
Station 4, located in the Southwest Waterfront, is offering a special Taleggio & Broccoli Rabe Grilled Cheese and paried with a cool Watermelon Gazpacho during brunch, lunch, and dinner service for $12.99. We dined here on Friday night, so we’ll pass on a recap shortly.
Ulah Bistro, located on U Street, is offering a grilled cheese and soup pairing all month for $14. The Chilled Cucumber and Yogurt Soup is paired with the grilled Texas bread, caramelized onions, goat cheese, and four-hour braised short-ribs that have been cooked in red wine, each are available for lunch and dinner throughout the month. We finally made it out for some delicious French toast and brunch today, and will be passing along our recap and recommendations shortly in more depth.
We’re still working on our plans for Alexandria’s Restaurant Week, where is everyone else going?
Keep up with our blog (notice the new design) for a special promotion soon!
