So by now you’ve seen the blog post revealing our first farmhouse renovation, but I’m eager to share a few of the pieces that made the cut onto our freshly painted walls. This world is full of talented local artisans, and I must be the luckiest person to be surrounded by artists whom I also call friends (and sister, in one case).

Most of our decor is still packed away safely in the storage unit, but we managed to separate a few items we knew would be crucial to feeling “at home” in our new space. The very first thing we put up were our custom TO EAT lists, from this Charleston Etsy Shop.

In leaving DC, we struggled knowing we would be leaving our very favorite restaurants. As a “food blog” of sorts, our best memories revolved around our Date Nights in the district. TO EAT will customize your favorite city spots and creatively turn them into fantastic wall art.

He loves it – so DC hangs on my side of the closet, and Alexandria on his. To order your own to commemorate your favorite date nights, visit the shop.

Though we have written about these beauties before, our dear friend Riza (@mommyinpink on Instagram) is a talented calligraphist and also the wife to Joffoto (responsible for several of our favorite photos EVER…). Before we left, Jof did a special shoot with us on the Waterfront in Alexandria. At that shoot, Riza gifted us with two custom canvases – one of our names, and the other of our favorite saying. Though we are all urging her to start an Etsy shop, I’m sure if you message her on Instagram, she’d be thrilled to create custom art for you as well! I put them right next to the bed, and so they are the first thing I see when I wake up. Love, love, love.

My sister inherited the artist gene in our family (a long line of artists, but I did not inherit…) and 2 years ago gave us her impression of one of our favorite photos, which I am sure many of you have seen:

jumpShe turned it into one of our favorite pieces of art, something I will cherish always (and would LOVE more canvases in the future….hint, hint, Adrienne…)

Tomorrow, I’m rounding up some of my favorite small shops and creatives who would love your business – and I’m sure you will love their talent. Though it’s always easier to run to Target, it means leaps and bounds more to support those who earn a living with their special craft. Look for that post tomorrow…

In the meantime, do you have a special piece of art that you absolutely adore?? Do tell us…
