If you’re looking for a reason to dress up in spring’s finest, or just another reason to grab a margarita and guacamole, this weekend will present several opportunities for both. So break out your bright colors for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday and then rush over to the several restaurants participating in Cinco de Mayo activities.

Kentucky Derby Plans for Saturday, May 3rd:

  • On May 3rd, Black Jack and Pearl Dive are featuring traditional Mint Juleps for $10 with a live broadcast of the Kentucky Derby upstairs in Black Jack. Black Jack has also just released it’s new Spring Cocktail list, which is bound to make a trip worthwhile.
  • Logan Tavern will be showing the Derby on TV at the bar, while offering several specials. Traditional Derby food specials (appetizer size) will be served such as fried green tomatoes ($5) and Ham & Biscuits ($8). Mint Juleps, Ginger Arnold Palmers, and the Oaks Lily (a vodka cranberry with a sweet and sour kick) will be be offered for $8, along with Kentucky Bourbon whiskey flights (three 1 oz pours of Kentucky bourbons) will be available for $15.
  • The Heights will feature Kentucky Hot Browns and Bourbon Balls, as well as Mint Julep drink specials. The Kentucky Derby will be shown on the bar TVs.
 
Cinco de Mayo for Monday, May 5th:
  • Commissary will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a five-Course Dinner Tasting Menu for 25 people on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The Cinco Tasting Menu is $30, or $40 with six cocktail pairings featuring Sauza Tequila, mezcal, and Negra Modelo (tax and gratuity not included). Reservations can be made on their website.
  • El Centro DF will be offering a Cinco de Mayo buffet for only $10! From 5-11pm you’ll be able to fill up on several of your favorites and don’t forget to order some of DC’s finest guacamole! As an added plus, margaritas are only $5!
  • Oyamel, a Penn Quarter favorite, will be offering a variety of deals for Cinco de Mayo from $10 drinks to $3-4 tacos.
