Happy National Guacamole Day!
Some people look forward to the big calendar days — the ones marked in bold print, where schools close and the world slows. Me? I look forward to September 16th, because somewhere along the way, National Guacamole Day became my holiday.
If you know me at all, you know my deep and abiding affection for avocados. They’ve found their way into nearly every chapter of my life: morning toast, quick lunches, late-night snacks, and more than a few celebrations where the bowl of guacamole disappeared faster than the champagne.

There’s poetry in it — how something so unassuming on the outside can hold such brilliance inside. Maybe that’s part of the reason I love them: they remind me that the best things often come hidden beneath a tough exterior, it just takes the right moment to break it open and enjoy.
So today I raise a chip (a sturdy one, because no flimsy scoops will do) to my favorite fruit, my table’s constant companion, and the dish I never say no to. Call it obsession, call it tradition — I call it love.

Happy #NationalGuacamoleDay, friends. If you need me, I’ll be in the kitchen with a lime, a little salt, and a pile of avocados, celebrating like it’s the best holiday of the year.
