The past day has been heavy.

Then again, the last few months have been heavy ….but yesterday.

Alix and I have been extremely lucky and blessed during this period. We’ve been moved by the outreach from others and we’ve done our best to return the favor. When it comes to the Shirt Factory, it’s able to operate because of the overwhelming support from all of you. No matter what tomorrow brings, we feel lucky for today.

While we’re doing well, it is breaking our hearts to know how many of our friends, family, and complete strangers both near and far are struggling.  Schools officially closed, businesses are closed and/or greatly modified, spring/summer events have been postponed, people are overwhelmed, questions don’t have answers, and worst of all those close to us have lost family members. As we’ve done repeatedly in person and across social media, we have one simple request – stay strong.

Coming together to be one unified coalition doesn’t mean giving up your liberties. It’s simply a statement and sign of solidarity that you’re going to take steps today so we can get to tomorrow. Most importantly, we want to know we’re all doing everything we can to help. While division exists throughout the country, what better time to join together, stand with others, and know we’re doing everything possible for those who can’t.

Whether you choose to believe doctors and scientists, politicians and pundits, or a combination in-between, remember what you share is being seen by others. Others who respect your opinion, will share what they learn from you, and may often act as a result. Whether you believe the term or not, “fake news” is thrown around daily. If we shout it from the rooftop, but then quickly share posts on Facebook that we failed to fact check, are we any better? Our neighbors who continue to struggle during this period are looking to those they respect for insight, confidence, and strength. Be the person that helps bring people out of this.

To be clear, you can still go outside. You can see loved ones. You’re not on “lock down.” You can go for a jog, support small businesses, read a book, do yard work, advocate for issues, pray, reach out to your friends, and countless other things. Restaurants and businesses have always asked patrons to wear pants, now we’re just being asked to wear something connected to the safety of our neighbors.

Staying home (when possible), social distancing, wearing a mask, and listening to other recommendations could actually save lives. What an amazing and powerful thought. We should all take pride in this idea. We Are #MedinaStrong.

One last request – if you need something, be it a trip to the grocery store, someone to come help you get that lawn mowed, or just a friend to be an ear – Alix and I are here. Please use us for help. Stay healthy, stay strong.
