Friday Minutes: First Week of August
After a successful launch of our first week of Friday Minutes, we are excited to bring you another week of articles and blog posts that caught our eye.
Friday Minutes is obviously a pun, but just like minutes from a meeting, we will condense our favorite articles and blog posts from the week that we feel are worth sharing. You’ll be able to sift through and find great reviews, things to do, and ideas for fabulous romantic or family dates. It truly allows us to share the best from the blogs we read every day, and hopefully you’ll find a few that will be added to your blogroll as well.
Speaking of blogroll – if you are a blogger in either the DMV or in Western New York, we are compiling a list to feature here on DC Minute. Make sure to leave a comment with your blog so we can add it!
Western New York Minutes:
The Scottish Festival and Highland Games is only one of the festivals you’ll find on this Visit Buffalo Niagara list outlining the 10 Awesome Festivals to Enjoy in August.
Thanks to Buffalo Rising we just learned there’s a Scavenger Hunt coming to Buffalo, later this month.
The craft beer scene is certainly buzzing in the Buffalo area, and I’ve been hearing about it for years. The Public looks to have created the list of several places we’ll be visiting shortly.
Apparently, there is a lot of love in Buffalo. We read in Buffalo Rising about a giant wedding…with the City of Buffalo?
We’re getting excited as we follow Buffalo News and their reporting on the growing food scene. The latest is the Dapper Goose, which hopes to be open in the next couple of weeks.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and this article from Step Out Buffalo showed how true this old adage is. These ’11 Stunning Buffalo Insta Photos You’ll Love’ are making us even more excited to get back to WNY.
In our soon to be hometown, again, Medina really outdid themselves with this farm-to-table dinner with 137 diners. We were happy to see Orleans Hub write about this so quickly. We can’t wait to take part in future events.
WNY Blogs:
Poetry might not be for everyone, but I don’t understand how people aren’t universally in love with spoken word. Yeah! Buffalo published this amazing spoken word tribute “Buffalo” from Dana Ingebretson, and it’s got us thinking about WNY even more.
It’s summertime, and finding a good white wine is made a whole lot easier if you read the Nittany Epicurean. As Michael is working his way around several wine trails, he recently shared his thoughts on the Leonard Oakes Winery Sauvignon Blanc and made the case for it being a must-try.
Washington, DC Area Minutes:
President Obama just turned 55, but do you know where he ate? Thanks to Eater DC, you do now.
The Washington, DC area is full of good breweries. The Washingtonian has a great guide to 25 that you should try now.
While we were sitting at a favorite speakeasy of ours last night, we found ourselves discussing this article from Laura Hayes and Washington City Paper. The question we have to ask you all, ‘who owns the name of a cocktail after the mixologist, who created it, leaves the bar?’
We have a love-hate relationship with tasting menus. We love to experience them, but hate to pay the high price tags. Thanks to the Washington Post’s Going Out Guide, we now have a list of those with a more reasonable price tag.
DC Blogs:
It’s been a busy month for Kacy at Bad Sentences. Review all of her July fun, as she recaps her last month.
‘Summer calls for salsa!’ is something we easily agree with. Lauren, Capital Cooking, has the perfect recipe from her time in Cabo, Mexico.
Johnna once again has us wondering if we should add another meal to our list. Her take on Masa 14 and their Chef’s Tasting Table has our mouths’ watering.
Hamburgers and French fries were a centerpiece of this recent review from Hungry Lobbyist.
That’s a wrap for this week’s Friday Minutes. Were there any articles and posts that caught your eyes? What bloggers should we be adding for the future? Happy Weekend!
