Date Night: Bonfire, DC
You know, if someone told us we didn’t have to move back to the country to get a good s’more, this move home might be delayed. Especially since the perfect s’more is accompanied by fabulous craft cocktails and a mac & cheese that is enough to throw you into a happy dance. Enter the newly opened Bonfire in DC.
We scoped out the new digs a couple weeks ago and can say without reservation that it’s worth the hype. Though restaurants can get overly gimmicky with their “concepts,” Bonfire has nailed America’s love of comfort food with the familiar summer treat.
Many of the cocktails mixed reflect that smoky and woodsy vibe, so be prepared. However, several are fruit forward and come adorned with flowers and other playful garnishes. As pretty to photograph as delicious to drink, that’s for sure.
For the food? Grab that Short Rib Mac and Cheese. Quickly. And then get some more. Don’t be bashful and scope out the rest of the menu, as we tried the Duck Waffle as well as the Marrow Tots (which I hear are changing to short rib as well??) Either way. Order to your heart’s content, and try the Beef Grilled Cheese and tell us all about it.
And of course, the signature item: the s’more. In all flavors and variations, don’t leave without a plate full of ’em.
Bonfire is open Monday through Saturday, though I hope with enough peer pressure they will add Brunch soon enough. Check it out, located at 1132 19th ST NW | Washington, DC | 20036.
