Wine Tasting at Sonoma Cellar in Alexandria, VA
After their much anticipated opening last fall, wine tasting at Sonoma Cellar in Alexandria, VA couldn’t be better. Primarily focusing on California wines, you can also find some local representation on the shelves which appeals to our love of all things local.
After a huge brunch on Sunday, Alix and I decided to walk down to King Street and again found ourselves looking in the front door of Sonoma Cellar. Hoping for a couple open seats, we peaked our head and gave their wine tasting a try. Lucky for us seats were just becoming available as we approached the bar allowing us to immediately be seated. While some wine bars are darker and feel cramped, the coloring they’ve opted for is a refreshing change.
Wine tasting can be done several different ways, from 1 ounce pours to the purchase of bottles. Thanks to the slight chill in the afternoon air, we both directed our eyes to the red wines on the tasting menu. Alix decided on a blend and Cabernet Franc and I went for the remaining 2 blends. Wine should be fun and those working at Sonoma Cellar are doing their best to relay that message to patrons.
The next time you’re looking for a glass of wine consider this wine bar in Old Town.
