WCP Best of D.C. 2016 Voting: There’s Still Time!
The Washington City Paper have once against asked readers to vote for their DC favorites, and we have once again tried our best. Every year we enjoy the opportunity to share and vote for our best experiences, favorite restaurants, and the art gallery that was most memorable to us. This year seems to be the most difficult yet, as we are torn between so many favorites. Thank goodness the Presidential race is likely to be easier than completing this ballot! Just remember, you only have until the end of the day on March 1 to complete yours.
As always, our ballot is not 100% complete and is just based on our opinions. Also, like many other things, we didn’t agree on each selection. Here’s a look at how we voted in several of the categories:
Best Art Gallery: Renwick – When my parents came to town we immediately made plans to attend their exhibit “Wonder” – well worth a trip.
Best Consignment Shop: Mint Condition in Old Town
Best Farmers Market: Eastern Market – We always go home with a couple bags of fresh foods.
Best Pet Shop: Dog Park – It’s to the point where Ivan knows what the bag looks like. He loves the cookies!
Best Place to Buy Wine: Altura Wine – I know that Total Wine has the quantity, but this small wine shop in Alexandria beats all the rest. Edgar knows everyone by name and will spend extra time recommending wine to you. He also will cater to what you want to spend. He rarely recommends bottles over $30 to us, but he knows we’ll grab them when he does.
Best Running Store: Pacers – They spend extra time with customers to make sure they’ve found the perfect shoes.
Best Community Blog: Red Brick Town – We live in Old Town and this blog provides the most up-to-date information on our neighborhood.
Best Local Sports Player: Alex Singer – She’s always loyal on social media and might actually get us to watch a soccer game.
Best Neighborhood to go out in: We love the entire 14th street area. It’s easy to navigate and we love the food and drinks there.
Best Non-Profit: Food & Friends
Best Food Blog: In A DC Minute – I know we don’t always talk about food, but we’d really appreciate your support with a vote!
Best Cocktail Bar: We split on this with Gibson and PX.
Best Coffee Shop: Killer ESP
Best Doughnuts: Sugar Shack!!!
Best Brewery: Port City
Best Mixologist: Todd Thrasher
Best American Restaurant: I keep thinking classic American tavern with this category, so Penn Commons it is.
Best Neighborhood Bar: We split on this and selected Mason Social and The Light Horse, both in Alexandria (hence our neighborhood).
Best Restaurant: We couldn’t pick just one. We finally both selected one each from this list…but I won’t tell you who we picked. We’ve loved our experiences at Marcels, Central, Mintwood Place, Rasika, Estadio, 1789, Restaurant Eve, and probably more that I’m leaving out.
Best Whiskey Selection: This seems to easy to say Jack Rose Dining Saloon.
Who did you vote for? Who has the best chicken wings?
