The Lost Dog Cafe recently opened their first Alexandria location, and the only question we had was whether or not it was possible to pick a sandwich from the 53 different options on the menu!

Walking around the National Mall, stopping in museums, and maybe even finding a restaurant for lunch were all tentative plans of ours last Saturday. Our course changed after waking up to the feeling of the previous week’s weight on our shoulders. Instead of being active, we decided staying local and relaxing was a more suitable approach to the weekend. Any of you who pay attention to restaurant openings in Old Town heard about the same two places as we did: Sugar Shack and Lost Dog Cafe. Our excitement heightened when we realized they are located right next door to each other…

Our lunch at Lost Dog Cafe was the first time there for us both.   We ordered the San Diego (a chicken or tuna salad, avocado, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on toasted wheat berry bread) and Sammy’s Club (sliced chicken breast, avocado, crispy bacon, lettuce, melted brie, tomato, and pesto mayo on a toasted sub roll).  Both were larger than we expected and totally satisfying. The Sammy’s Club was rich with the brie and the pesto, but both ingredients are right up my alley. Either way, opt for the waffle fries as a side to your sandwiches – they complete the experience.

Among the things we’ve talked about wanting to see more of in Old Town  are sandwich shops, so the recent opening of Lost Dog Cafe is one we appreciate.

Have you been? Or do you have another tried and true cafe?
