Weekend Recap: Engaged!!
To say we spent the last three days on a perpetual high is the understatement of the year. After the man of my dreams took to one knee Thursday night, we decided to spend the entire weekend celebrating this elevation of status and affirmation of forever.
Friday evening Scott whisked me off to the Adams Morgan neighborhood in DC for a celebratory dinner. Before heading to the restaurant for our 6:30 reservations, we stopped at Jack Rose for happy hour. Boasting the most extensive whiskey selection I have EVER seen, the comfortable vibe and dark interior was perfect for sipping and intimate conversation. Not to mention, a little ring-gawking. Can’t stop staring at it!
Dinner reservations were made for one of the Top 25 restaurants according to Washingtonian – Mintwood Place, located in the same neighborhood on Columbia Road in NW DC. Though there is nothing pretentious about the atmosphere, the eclectic vibe and imaginative menu impressed on our first night out post-engagement. Though a full review is in the works, we walked away 100% satisfied with our experience and urge you to visit and see for yourself.
On Saturday, a dream of mine came true when I finally had the chance to sit in the stands at the Verizon Center and watch the Washington International Horse Show. Though the smell of the hay and the leather made me miss my horses at home, it was just enough of a reminder of the country girl I still am.
Saturday evening we spent relaxing on the couch with a good movie, but ventured out around 9 for a bite at one of our favorite local Old Town restaurants – The Pita House- for a few Mediterranean dishes. We rounded out the evening with a quick stop in at King Street Blues to see Ian, our friend and bartender, and made it an early night by being in bed by 11:00. Love being old.
Sunday has been earmarked for weeks as our day trip to Mount Vernon, but as we drove down Washington highway, a sudden urge to drive west and take in the fall foliage at the peak of autumn color took over and off we went. We drove leisurely and enjoyed all the natural brilliance, but found our way to a few wineries as well.
The weekend was beautiful, and was the perfect way to celebrate our excitement over this next step. Next weekend we are driving to New York to see our families and continue the celebration.
Tomorrow on the blog? How Scott popped the question…
Happy Monday!
