Last night, Scott and I took a trip into the city for a Tuesday date night. As we drove home from the event, we realized that no matter how long a couple has been together, it is important to keep dates fresh and romantic and to continue to do those little things that always begin on a first date, but often end up being dropped as comfort takes over and excitement fades.

The following 10 things are items we try to do on every date…

1.  Compliment your date at least twice – once on their appearance, a second time on something they said.

2. Guys – chivalry is alive and well. Hold the door open – and while you’re at it, the car door will earn you MAJOR points. And ladies? Let them!

3. The small of a woman’s back  works wonders when guiding your date through a crowded room or back to a table. Just a slight touch to show you’re in charge.

4. Have a back-up plan. You never know when the wait will be too long or things need to change. Know the area, do your research, or just own the adventure and start walking.

5. Our favorite dates typically include more than one stop. Cocktails at a lounge first, dinner at a restaurant, and a walk to a neighborhood patisserie rounds out the night.

6. Flirt. And then flirt some more (with YOUR date….)

7. If you are at a party or event where food is out for the taking, make sure to grab enough for both of you, or grab the plate for your date.  This is typically a guy move, but I’ve grabbed a plate for Scott many times.

8. Put your phones down. Remember, the point is to TALK. Without hashtags or having to hit “send”.

9. Make it memorable. No matter how big or small the date, try to take in at least one moment that will last.

10. Make out at the end of the night.
