Football is Back: Where We Watch
Among the many reasons I love fall is the return of football. Our fantasy football drafts are complete, new team t-shirts have arrived, and now the only thing left is to watch some games. Here is our list of places we’ll be going to watch now that football is back:
If we’re in DC…
Redline is one of our favorite places to watch a game and actually be able to eat good food while doing so. Throughout the football season they are offering $4 Bud Lights, $6 Fireball shots, and 15% off all appetizers. If that’s not enough to get you in they also have tabletop taps and 50 plasma TVs!
Penn Commons is a trendier version of the American tavern, and with 40 beers on tap it’s gearing up to be a great location for the big game. Another reason to stop by this newly opened location is the menu, which includes some great starters and burgers you’ll regret passing up.
If we’re staying in Old Town…
Union Street Public House has the NFL Sunday Ticket which seems to be a prerequisite for many people to show up. As for deals they are offering $3 Coors Light and Bug Light aluminum bottles, as well as 1/2 price Taproom burgers and $.95 wings. Since this has become one of our favorite close to home brunch spots, we might easily just stay a couple more hours for a game.
The Lighthorse is perfect for music on Saturday night and football on Sunday. With the 11 HD TVs around the upstairs they will be showing every game, with larger TVs focused on the Redskins, Saints, and Bears. As always, the priority games will have sound included which to me is a huge plus. During games, buckets of Bud Lights, Miller Lites, and Coors Light long necks can be purchased for $15 (5 in each bucket). In addition to drinks they will be offering weekly food specials, so make sure to ask.
Flat Iron Steak & Saloon might be the smallest bar on our list but that doesn’t mean we like it any less. There always seems to be room at the bar and you’ll just have to move your head slightly to see the other games. As for food specials they have plenty, including Mac & Cheese bites ($10), Mini Roasted Pork Shanks ($10), or sandwiches named after Vince Lombardi ($13) and Joe Namath ($12). They have several other specials as well that are running all season.
As for the NCAA it’s all about the Orange of Syracuse. Yes, Syracuse does have a football team. And yes, we did actually beat Villanova in the opener (who I also just learned has a football team). When it comes to the Syracuse Orange, Sign of the Whale always has a good group of fans, along with $10 pitchers, $3 pints, and $5 burgers during games.
Where do you go to watch your favorite teams?
Cheers!
