News Around Town and Capital Pride Week
It’s hard to believe that we are already in the first week of June. The first five months of 2014 are already behind us and soon enough June will be too. All of that being said, several things are going on throughout the week and the weekend that are certainly worth your time.
First and foremost, there is a lot more going on this week than we have listed below. In addition to the many things you might already have on your calendar here are some things you might want to consider adding.
This week:
Blue Duck Tavern is celebrating the start of summer with new seasonal dishes and cocktails. Additionally, starting tonight (June 3rd) and running every Tuesday night, four ounce pours of specially selected rare magnums will be available for $30. Each magnum is library selected and is not currently available to the public.
The Ritz Carlton, Tysons Corner gets their taste of Jose Andres this week, with the opening of America Eats Tavern formally located in Penn Quarter. The restaurant will showcase the best of American cuisine along with an all-American wine list, with a section dedicated to the finest of Virginia wines. Breakfast and lunch are no available with dinner coming soon!
This Friday, June 6th, is National Doughnut Day and to celebrate Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken will be offering $3 “Strawberry Chocolate” doughnuts. Not only are the doughnuts on limited supply, but 100% of the sales will go to benefit the Fisher House Foundation. Keep Astro Doughnuts in mind during the World Cup this year, as the “USA Doughnut” that made it’s debut during the 2014 Olympics will return.
This Weekend:
There are several events running this week to celebrate the annual Capital Pride Week. The Capital Pride Parade kicks off at 22nd and P St NW at 4:30 pm, running through the Dupont and Logan Circle Neighborhoods, before concluding around 14th and S St at 7:30 pm. If you’re planning to attend, using public transportation is highly recommended and consider getting in earlier than you might normally, since the event attracts around 150,000 people.
Logan Tavern will be selling $8 Sex and the City themed drinks from Friday through Sunday. From the Carrie Bradshaw to the $6 Mr. Big (a shot that will only be served on Saturday), each drink will be named after a character from the show.
Commissary has partnered with Bud Light and will serve $3 Bud Lights from Thursday through Sunday to celebrate Capital Pride Week.
This Saturday and Sunday, The Heights is hosting it’s Pig on the Patio which includes both drink and pork specials through the restaurant. The roast will begin at 9:00 am rain or shine on the newly revamped 80 seat patio. Specials will give you a bit of everything from a head to foot pig platter to drink specials that include Bacon Bloody Marys ($10) to a Farmhouse Punch ($9) made with bourbon. From 10:00 am-3:00 pm, EatWell Natural Farm’s Manager Ellen S. Porch will be promoting farm-to-table operations on the patio to attendees.
The Second Annual DC Donut Crawl is taking place from 10am-1pm this Saturday. The event will kickoff at Mt. Vernon Square then move from GBD, to Astro Doughnuts, and then will conclude with a stop at District Doughnut. Tickets are $20.
There is a great week and weekend ahead, so go have fun and let us know what you made it out to!
