Date Night with Friends: Ella’s Wood Fired Pizza DC
Food options are in abundance near Washington DC’s Verizon Center, and during events they can get quite crowded. With this in mind, we were happy to experience a restaurant a couple blocks from the bustling 7th street area. Ella’s Wood Fired Pizza, located at 610 9th Street NW, is just the place to go with friends if you’re looking to grab some pizza before or after an event.
Our date night was a little larger than normal, as we were joined by two of our favorite people Troy (@TheGayTraveler) and Barnette (@DCFashionFool) for dinner and drinks. With additional mouths to feed we decided to order several items off the menu. You’ll find common favorites like calamari and fried chicken, but our favorites among the starters were the Tuscan Style Beans (spinach, garlic, tomatoes, and grilled Italian sausage) and the Housemade Meatball (with polenta sauce).
It’s always disappointing when you head to a pizzeria and the pizza falls short. Thankfully, Ella’s delivered. For those dining-in, the pizza size is 10″ each, providing the opportunity to experience a couple on the menu. Some of the favorites from our visit were the Soppressata (tomato sauce, parmesan, sweet Italian sausage, fennel & roasted red peppers) and the Pucillo (tomato sauce, smoked mozzarella, prosciutto & fresh arugula). For the those of you who prefer calzones, the Zucca (butternut squash, mushrooms, chicken, ricotta, parmesan, and mozzarella) may have been our favorite main dish.
The next time you’re looking for pizza or just a place off the beaten path around the Verizon Center, take a look at Ella’s Wood Fired Pizza and let us know what you think.
Cheers!
