Date Night: Commissary DC
“Your neighborhood place, honest pricing” is the motto of Commissary DC and after our recent trip it’s easy to see why. Commissary is a casual lounge that serves up 3 meals a day. They provide a menu full of options, with most being far more inexpensive than their competition located blocks away on the busy 14th Street corridor.
After several recommendations to stop in for happy hour (runs daily from 3-7pm) we made plans and immediately found a couple seats at the bar. As you may know we love sitting at the bar, though Commissary offers both a lounge and outdoor seating options. If our trip is any indication, you’ll always find a place to relax that fits your liking.
The daily happy hour deals are better than good. Beers ($2-6), specialty cocktails ($4.50-5.75), wine ($4.75-9.75), along with several can’t miss food options that are great starters to any evening. Among the listing of specialty cocktails are several with bubbles, if you’re anything like Al and enjoy these, we recommend ordering a couple.
Along with our drinks we tried out a couple food options that were all under $8. We’d recommend any of the tacos, the lettuce wraps, and the truffle fries. By the time we ordered our food it was becoming quite crowded with the evening dinner crowd shuffling in. Extra points go to Commissary DC for their customer service, they actually erased one of the items from our final bill because it took a little longer to get out to us. When a server makes a decision like this on their own without any mention from the consumer I think they deserve the mention, as costumer service is clearly a priority.
Keep and eye on Commissary DC since they regularly offer additional specials throughout the year. It’s just another reason we love that entire 14th Street Corridor and the neighboring side streets so much.
Cheers!
