When I lived in Syracuse, Sundays meant a walk down the street to the neighborhood bakery for my weekly donut. I’d throw it on a plate and sit on the porch sipping coffee and savoring the buttercream off the top of my Headlight. My weekly guilty pleasure.

However when I moved to D.C., nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming brunch scene this city has to offer. Out with donuts and coffee, in with eggs benedict and mimosas! From day 1, Scott planned our weekend plans around Sunday brunch, and it quickly became one of my favorite D.C. rituals. We frequent many of the restaurants in Old Town simply because we can walk, but lately we’ve expanded our repertoire to D.C. proper.

Recently, we had the chance to head back to one of our favorite spots in Penn Quarter, Redline Gastrolounge. We last wrote about Redline in February after an amazing dinner, and have been back several times since for drinks and dinner with friends. Lucky for us, Redline is now offering brunch buffet – and a damn good one.

Brunch-1

Chef Fabrice Reymond has coordinated an amazing brunch, filled with all of the staples (eggs benedict, french toast) while appealing to my European tendencies and offering a wide selection of cheese and fruit. Native to Switzerland but trained in France, Chef Fabrice has mastered the art of marrying the East with the West and satisfying the cultured palettes of many in D.C.

Buffets are hard to pull off, but we felt Redline is on the right track. We had brunch with friends of ours, and we easily all went back 3 times. Not to mention, Redline offers one of the most appealing Bloody Marys we have seen in the city, though the spicy was indeed just that. Only the brave should order spicy. We appreciate the garnishes that accompany the drink, and thus far – Redline’s presentation tops all.

It’s the atmosphere that keeps us coming back. In addition to great food and fun events, it’s just a good place to kick back and relax with friends. The patio is open for the summer season, and while we enjoy the ambiance inside, we will certainly be taking advantage of dining outside while the warm weather lasts.

Brunch-4 Brunch-3

Dish of the day? Scott says – hands down – the french toast. While the buffet can satisfy even the most discerning eye, bear in mind there are omelettes made to order and a pastry selection that will require atleast 2 trips to fully enjoy.

Redline is serving brunch every Sunday from 10:30-4:00, $25 a plate, or $35 with bottomless drinks.

Enjoy!
