The beauty of this post lies in the mere point of when I am writing it – Monday morning, in bed in pjs, dogs curled up next to me, coffee on the bedside table, and a Christmas movie playing on TV.

Snow Day!!!!!

I’m now positive that snow days mean more to me than when I was a kid. When I was a little girl, snow days meant no homework and playing outside. Now, I see it as a monumentally productive and exciting attempt at a day. It’s like a gift of time, something that I realize is more significant as I age.

This weekend was absolutely perfect in my book, even though it came right after one of the most stressful weeks I’ve had yet in Virginia. However, the weekend was delightful.

On Friday night, Scott’s friends gathered for a post-30th birthday celebration at Hunan 1 in Arlington. Scott had a great time, and it was nice to meet the few remaining friends of his that I haven’t gotten a chance to meet yet. The best part of the night? We pulled into my parking lot before midnight.  The perk of being 30 :)

Saturday was originally a date night out, but in anticipation of another dinner on Sunday, we decided to stay in and enjoy a holiday night to ourselves. This was the kind of night that we have talked about incessantly – getting cozy, making cookies, and watching holiday movies. I talked Scott into an old favorite of mine, Emmet the Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, and as a special birthday treat, I made cupcakes with amazing chocolate buttercream frosting. We snuggled between the pups, and had the most wonderful evening.

Sunday we were happy as clams when the snow rolled in, but we made a break for it in the afternoon to see Catching Fire. The movie was wonderful, but as we were leaving the icy parking lot, we noticed this, and it was hands down the best way to cap off our adventure:

Sunday night I “helped” out my sister by “working on” a paper she had due, while Scott took to the kitchen and made the most delectable peanut butter blossoms I’ve ever had. Seriously, this man can bake.

I went to bed angry at the world because my school system was still not closing its doors, but thankfully by 6 AM, I got the news that indeed I would be lounging around the apartment, though Scott had to leave to head to work.  Would have been a much better day had he been able to play hooky as well.

All in all, it was stress-free and enjoyable weekend. Its easy to get bogged down with holiday events and such, but Scott and I are savoring every moment of our first season together.

How was your weekend? Any special holiday fun?
