Jaleo Crystal City Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Some of our favorite restaurants in the city have been imagined and brought to life by Jose Andres, so the opportunity to spend an evening celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Jaleo Crystal City was one we had to take. Though Scott had been to the location before, it was a first for me and it definitely won’t be the last. The entire restaurant was buzzing at 5 PM, closed off for the evening festivities to ticket holders only. Jaleo transformed into a geographic journey, with tables situated all over the dining space to represent the many regions in Spain. Tapas and beverages were plentiful, and the crowd was entertained by live music and a flamenco dancer who circulated among the patrons. The atmosphere was electric with the flavors of Spain, and we lost ourselves in the excitement. We ate cheese in excess, and found the Spanish rice to be our favorite dish of the night. We have acquired a deep affinity for Manchego cheese this past year, and again were delighted to indulge at Jaleo. We also greatly enjoyed the wine selection, and sipped on bubbles atop a foosball table. I know, right? The highlight of the night was being able to say that not only did we meet José Andrés himself, but that he gave me a hard time when I told him I thought he has “one of the best” guacamole in the city. “ONE of the best? Why not THE best?” he asked. I told him that Scott made a mean guacamole and that I had to be loyal to my man. However, Mr. Andrés, I’d be happy to reevaluate if you’d like to make me your personal recipe. ;) I have cultivated a love of Spanish cuisine and culture for as long as I can remember, and my family has been an integral part in nurturing that love. My uncle was born and raised in Spain and therefore the influence has been heavy – an influence that I enjoy greatly and am reminded of on nights like the one we had at Jaleo. We’ll be back, for sure, and hope that you find a chance to celebrate ten years with Jaleo Crystal City!
