I’ve always been a fan of thick crust pizza, which was the original draw to Bugsy’s Pizza Restaurant and Sports Bar when I stumbled upon it years ago. Bugsy’s offers thin crust as well as a variety of Italian items, but to me it is always about the regular thick crust pizza they offer. The best part is that they don’t go overboard with the grease, which many pizza places do.

Pizza has and will always be one of my favorite meals, so when it comes to Bugsy’s I try to get in every couple of months. This past weekend we actually went twice. As family was traveling through the area, and we were trying to find a place for a quick dinner, they mentioned pizza – SOLD! Al and I normally split a pizza, half being her onions, jalapenos and mushrooms while I drop the mushrooms and add some chicken or something else. On this trip we also tried the Mediterranean pizza, which definitely impressed. Obviously the family was satisfied and our pizza fix was complete.

However, on Sunday we found ourselves back along King St, and again looking for a quick place to eat. For those of you who avoid lunch buffets, I’m with you much of the time, but when it comes to Bugsy’s $7.95 buffet (even on the weekends) I’ll be one of the first through the door. You can even get salad and feel better about all of the pizza you consume. Cheese, pepperoni, sausage, veggie, thin crust, thick crust; they really hold nothing back.

This weekend with the many other things we did, Bugsy’s made it on our calendars twice. If you haven’t been you really need to give it a shot. The atmosphere takes you back over 100 years with the wooden tables and chairs, brick interior and large wooden beams throughout the main dining area. If you’re looking for a sports bar, you can head straight up the steps to watch your favorite game. The only thing I’ll say is that smoking is allowed upstairs, which I know turns some people off. If you’re OK with that, it’s certainly another great place to catch your favorite sport.

There are several pizza places in Old Town, Alexandria, it just so happens Bugsy’s got the majority of our appetite on this one.

Cheers!
