We’ve been dating for 10 months, but we’ve known each other for 17 years.

Life has a way of dishing out lemons, but I finally found a man who could take them and make lemonade. Scott prefers wine, so we’ll call them sour grapes.

Both transplants from Western New York, we have come to DC at different times and for vastly different reasons. But while our stories are far from similar, we have found each other in this place and time, and are craving to make the most of it.

A few basic tells: Scott loves wine. Love is mild, actually. But not just any wine – Scott loves good wine. He is a connoisseur of all varietals and regions, but his heart swoons for the Virginia wine scene, and we spend a great deal of time among the dozens  (Scott’s edit) 230 wineries this state has to offer.

As for me? Avocado is king. And queen. And all the royalty in the world x 1000. The love affair is going on 8 years this December. Believe me when I say the celebration will be grander than the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. To sum up: guacamole is my passion.

Together, we drink a lot of great wine with the green stuff.

Let’s be honest, dating is a fragile and uncertain venture. And perhaps we just sealed our fate by attaching ourselves to a public place for the world to see. But after what we’ve seen (and felt) in the past, this relationship is different. Therefore, we are throwing caution to the wind and just going with what we know to be true.

We’re teetering on the brink of 30, and while we feel firmly that this age is still indicative of youth and energy, we know how quickly the years pass and life becomes a collection of memories. The past few years have been…trying. But I know we both have learned more about who we are and where we want to be than if they had been a cakewalk. Now is all about embracing every minute in this beautiful and thriving city, learning more about life and love and all things new.

Welcome to In a DC Minute…
