Here is the truth: we miss DC.  Oh, you’re not surprised, right? We love this incredible rural life, but sometimes we would love nothing more than to perch on a seat at one of our favorite cocktail bars in the city. Dim lighting, romantic atmosphere, speakeasies and talented mixologists abound down there, and it is probably one of the things we miss the most.

So Scott, my rising mixologist, has gotten creative on the farm to re-create the date nights we have been missing. After we took the Tiki cocktail class 2 years ago, Scott has been concocting and meddling in craft libations. Though he is modest and would deny the praise, he mixes insanely delicious drinks and I love watching him grow in this hobby.  All I have heard about for the last two months is his autumn cocktail menu, of which I can now present.

Yesterday I walked through the living room to see him furiously jotting notes – and then I peered onto his computer and he was giving life to new cocktail recipes. We sampled his newest creations and took advantage of this 70 degree October weather on the farm to capture a few of them outside. So without further adieu, Scott’s 3 best Fall Cocktails:

The Speckled Pumpkin:

This cocktail was inspired by my recent trip to Catskill, NY. My best friend’s husband’s family (did you get that?) owns Story Farms and had an interesting batch of pumpkins this year, which they have dubbed the “speckled pumpkin”. I brought one home and Scott immediately started crafting a drink with sprinkled bitters on top to get the same effect…

Harvest Old Fashioned:

This one is all Scott – he adores a good Old Fashioned and is constantly playing with the recipe to create seasonal iterations. This one even I like, so it has to be good. :)  I also appreciate the scent of smoked rosemary, so it’s the perfect first whiff of this cocktail.

And then of course, Scott appealed to my palette and crafted a fantastic cider cocktail that I could put in a fancy glass and feel sophisticated on a Friday night. This is my favorite of the group, and that cider gives it a perfect autumn profile.
