For us, August 2016 is going to be a memorable month. This month will be fun of incredible activities, trips, and restaurant adventures. This month will also mark our move home to Medina and Western New York.

As the month is just getting underway, here is a look at our calendar and other events you should consider adding to yours.

Week 1: August 1-7

For all those of you in the Washington, DC area we hope you’ll be at our final DC Minute Happy Hour on August 2, from 6-8pm. Alexandria’s Brabo is the host again and will have a special patio menu designed for the gathering. No need to RSVP, but we always appreciate knowing who will be attending. Remember to post using #DCMinuteHH and share all of your favorite moments.

An event we’ll be missing is the first annual Medina Farm-to-Table Dinner. The August 4th sold-out five-course dinner will be prepared by Michael Zambito of Zambistro. In addition to local ingredients, local beverages from 810 Meadworks and other local wineries and breweries will provide ideal pairings. The Orleans Renaissance Group is organizing the fund-raiser dinner with proceeds going to the the Canal Village Farmer’s Market.

My mouth is watering knowing we’re also going to miss an event known as Sweets in Summer in Medina, NY. On Saturday, August 6, all participants can take place in an appetite full of chocolate for $10. In addition to satisfying your sweet tooth, attendees can participate in a giant sized Candy Land game from 11am-3pm.

Week 2: August 8-14 , Our Final Week in DC!

Tuesday, August 9, we’ll be heading to Carmines in DC for one of our last restaurant visits before heading North. We are also planning a few other last minute date nights, so stay tuned…

Summer in WNY always means county fairs and the the state fair at the end of August. From August 10-21, the Erie County Fair will take place at the Fairgrounds in Hamburg. Though we might not attend personally, the New York State Fair has a solid place on our calendar.

Alix will be happy as a clam to get back to her English teacher roots and enjoy The Taming of the Shrew at Shakespeare in Delaware Park. We will pack a picnic and enjoy a prime seat on the lawn to listen to the Bard. Perfect night in Buffalo!

Week 3: August 15-21

We’ll official be Medina, NY residents to start the week. Which means we’ll likely be making a trip to the Shirt Factory Cafe, 810 Meadworks, English Rose Tea Shoppe, and Leonard Oakes Winery before the first week is up.

Our first weekend is also going to be full of new adventures. We’re off to Buffalo on Friday, August 19 for our first dinner in a new city. After seeing the rave reviews from Buffalo Eats and others, Marble + Rye is high on our list. Buffalo Proper (a fab cocktail bar we’ve already been) might be our destination beforehand.

Week 4: August 22-28

Our first Sunday, August 21, in Western NY will include celebrating the birthday celebration of Scott’s grandmother, with a trip to the cottage on Lake Ontario.

July-9

Friday, August 26, we’re packing our tents and sleeping bags and heading to the Adirondacks with some of Alix’s family for the weekend. On the way home, we’ll be stopping at the New York State Fair for some fried food, photos of the butter sculptures, and some great late summer fun.

….annnnnnd now we’re tired. But it will be a fabulous, memorable month. What are your plans?
