When it comes to the Alexandria dining scene it’s safe to say that Majestic is a favorite of many. Years of recognition and positive experiences have helped this restaurant weather the storm of changes in ownership and the growth of the area’s competition.
After several years of the same layout, the team behind the Majestic decided it was time to revamp the stale interior for something new. What they’ve unveiled to the community is a completely new look. The chic decor is laden with new colors, textures, and attractive gallery walls. Beyond the aesthetics, Chef Gaby Hakman has revamped the menu as well.
Though Alix and I have had varied experiences at The Majestic, we do think there are a few items of note on the new menu. When it comes to appetizers, try the Charred Octopus or Fried Olives. While the lamb meatballs are a suitable third option and had a melt-in-your-mouth appeal, we were disappointed with the Baked Feta, as the salt overpowered the rest of the dish.
Great appetizers can either start a great meal or doom the rest of your options. For us, the entrees struggled to leave a lasting impression. However, the Cheshire Pork Chop was our clear favorite – tender, well-flavored. I’m reminded of growing up with my mother’s small-thinly sliced pork chops, what the Majestic is serving is about 5 times larger than what I’m used to. Take it from us, you won’t go hungry.
No meal is truly complete without dessert, and we felt this was the strongest section of the new menu, and all items are worth ordering. The Majestic Coconut Cake, Nutella Budino, and Strawberry Balsamic Tart all were exceptional. And then ask for an extra helping of “Crack cookies” – your life will never be the same.Cocktails are continuing to get better in Alexandria, and unfortunately our choices on this trip probably weren’t a fair representation of what the Majestic is offering – we’ll be back soon and can hopefully provide recommendations at that time. Stay tuned!
Even if you’re only looking for a couple small bites, the reintroduced Majestic is worth the trip, even if for ambiance alone.
