Turkey, stuffing, pie, and so much more will fill many of our homes this Thanksgiving. As we spend our second straight Thanksgiving in DC, we’re looking forward to enjoying a long weekend in one of our favorite areas. For those of you might want to try something different here are some suggestions for you, including some incredible restaurant specials for Thanksgiving day.

Our 8 things to do this Thanksgiving in DC…plus a couple more:

1. The National Mall at night. The temperatures are going to continue to drop, we’re thinking this week might be one of the last before you really have to bundle up for the stroll.

2. A 3-course Thanksgiving meal at the historic 1789 Restaurant in Georgetown. After our recent dinner here we would highly recommend stopping in for any special occasion. This special menu being offered for $55 per person and includes a butternut squash soup and traditional turkey w/ sausage sage stuffing. The a la carte menu is also available with several seasonal favorites available.

3. It’s near impossible to think of fine-dining restaurants in DC without thinking about Rasika in Penn Quarter. This Thanksgiving they’ll be offering a slight twist from the normal holiday favorite. Their charbroiled turkey is simmered in a sauce of cashew nuts, saffron, screw pine essence and more, while being served with a side of smoked butternut squash. This special entree is available for $20, with the a la carte menu also being offered.

4. If Virginia is for lovers, then Virginia Wine is a must this holiday weekend. There are several locations within driving distance, but we’d recommend a drive into Clifton to Paradise Springs Winery or slightly further to Bull Run Winery. Both are close proximity for those coming from DC.

5. Are you looking for a feast? Carmine’s might just be the perfect place. For $239.95, you and seven of your family and friends can enjoy all the fixings. The 18 pound turkey is accompanied by a sausage and sage stuffing, cranberry sauce, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes topped with marshmallows and maple syrup, and a some pie to finish it off. It’s hard to image there is a better bargain available this holiday.

6. Thanksgiving dinner from a James Beard award-winning chef Sherry Yard is possible at City Perch. Dinner will be served to adults for $40 and children under 12 for $20. Highlights from the menu include an herb roasted turkey and several signature desserts.

Gather your closest friends and family for an elegant 3-course meal ($65 per person, $35 for children under 12) at DBGB Kitchen and Bar. The meal includes roasted turkey with foie gras chestnut stuffing, spiced squash soup, sweet potato gratin, and more.
