Film festivals seem to come in an abundance these days, but we’ve found one we really can’t wait to attend. Next week, the Alexandria Film Festival will not only be walking distance from our front door, but will also be showing the Alexandria premiere of a show we’re  anxiously awaiting, Mercy Street.

Mercy Street, set in Alexandria, VA during the Civil War, takes a look at one of the most conflicted time periods our country has ever faced. The show follows two young nurses, one of Northern and the other of Southern influences, as their paths collide in the Union Army Hospital. Alexandria was full of intrigue during this period, acting as the true melting-pot of the region. Soldiers, runaway slaves, doctors, prostitutes, and others were present on the streets of the city, adding more reasons why this show will be a must watch. The private screening will take place November 5, 2015, and the show will begin airing next year.  With the PBS hit Downton Abby leaving the airwaves this year, we are excited for the next PBS hit, which will surely be Mercy Street.

For the two of us, nothing beats a good holiday movie. This year, that movie appears to be Love the Coopers, which will showcase some drama as an extended family gathers together for their Christmas Eve celebration. Tickets are available for the Saturday night 7:00PM screening, and are only $12 purchased online ahead of time.

Films are shown throughout the weekend at both the AMC Hoffman 22 as well as the Beatley Library. The schedule is posted online, via the link below.

Hopefully we’ll see you there!
