New brunches are starting, restaurants are opening, and patios are being packed full – a clear sign that summer is here. Along with those normal occurrences, events are happening all around the Washington, DC area. Two things we wanted to make sure you were aware of was a Bethesda, MD restaurant opening and an opportunity to say happy birthday to blueberries all month.

Last Monday, Bethesda welcomed Not Your Average Joe’s second Maryland location. As part of their opening they donated $10K to the Children’s Inn at NIH, showing their commitment to being a community partner. The 7,000 square foot restaurant features an open kitchen model with a large bar and several seating options, that includes 200 indoor and 75 on the patio. The wide variety of menu items are made to order, while the drink menu includes 40 bottles of wine and 20 beers on tap that each pair perfectly. Every Tuesday during July, 15% of all purchases will continue to be donated to the Children’s Inn at NIH, as their cause of the month.

It’s time to wish a happy birthday to blueberries! A month-long photo contest on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is inviting people to tag a creative photo wishing blueberries a happy birthday using #HappyBdayBlueberries for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card or a blueberry party kit. Info on other celebration festivities can be found here (most occur in D.C.).
