Even though it might continue to feel like summer for a couple weeks, Labor Day weekend always marks the beginning of fall. Over the last few weeks we’ve received news about deals and events that you might want to get involved in as you’re heading around town on this long holiday weekend.

We’ll have a good friend of ours in town this weekend, and she’ll be bringing her boyfriend to meet us. Knowing that, there are several things that interest us about the upcoming weekend.

There is plenty of football to be watched. A couple of our favorite places to watch a game are Redline and Penn Commons, both just off the Chinatown/Gallery Place stop. Redline offers deals during NFL games all season.

Patty Boom Boom’s Batti party (1359 U Street) is also returning on Sunday, August 31st and can kick off your fun right into your Monday. The event supports the LGBTQIA community in the Caribbean with great music and dancing, along with several opportunities to donate to JFLAG and Center Global.

Labor Day:

The EatWell DC Restaurants are going to be offering brunch, so head into The Heights, The Pig, Commissary, Logan Tavern, or Grillfish and enjoy brunch on a day when it’s normally not offered. After brunch gets you going it’s either time for a BBQ at your friend’s place, or the area is offering a variety of other events to partake in.

Marcus Johnson, a nationally renowned jazz artist, entrepreneur and CEO/Founder of FLO Brands, LLC and FLO Wine, LLC, will host the first ever FLOFest DC 2014. Imagine enjoying a beautiful day off of work and some great music, all while sipping on some excellent wines. You’ll be able to get all of this and more at FLOFest, which runs from noon until 6 p.m.

One of our favorite places for a cocktail is The Gibson. This Labor Day they are taking a break from the dim-lighting and no standing policies and opening up for a family-style BBQ event. For just $10 you can purchase tickets, that includes complimentary BBQ until it runs out. The event runs from 12-8 p.m. and will be offering popsicles and cocktails at special prices.
