Attention all romantics in the DC area! Here is a list of some of the many popular destinations in the area that will help spice up your date night.

Your list might differ from ours, but here are some of our favorite romantic destinations to help with your date night – all have been tried and approved by the two of us :)

1- If you haven’t already seen the monuments at night you’ve probably heard from friends how splendid the view is from the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, or standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during a sunset.  Our friends even got engaged on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial a couple years ago, so if that doesn’t scream romantic we don’t know what does.

2. You’ll probably want to trade in your casual clothes for something a little nicer when you visit the rooftop at the W Hotel, but seeing the view with someone special will be well worth it. The White House is on one side and the National Mall is to your other, both providing a great view from several stories up.  Al and I took our first trip up there together after a dinner date last fall. I won major points on that date, so she tells me…

3. Gravelly Point falls on our list of romantic date ideas, though unfortunately it’s on everyone’s list as well and never seems to be empty these days. This small park off Washington Parkway gives you the perfect chance to relive some movie moments when people are watching the planes land while lying on their cars. Remember to take a blanket and enjoy watching the planes come in over your heads and land at Reagan National.

4. No one will be surprised to hear the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria is on our list, especially since it’s our home. We commonly plan dinner for a nice night in Old Town so we can walk down to a park bench along the Potomac River afterward.

5. The reflecting pool gets a lot of time in movies, and lends itself as a great location to sit and relax next to. You’ll have the Lincoln Memorial on one side and the World War II on the other,  and this stretch will be great for a variety of photos with your partner.

6. Rockefeller Center in New York City isn’t the only place with an outdoor skating rink. The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden is our counterpart and provides a perfect location to be bundled up before a hot chocolate at the cafe next door. Get there early and often, as it’s often crowded. In the warmer months, soaking your feet in the fountain is an opportune time for a little public footsy.

7. A universally romantic event is the sunset and DC offers several places to take one in.  If you’re at National Harbor, look toward the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. If you’re on the Mall watch it set over the Lincoln Memorial. Plan your dinner reservations around this and it’ll add a couple more great memories for the night.

8. If you’re looking for a little more seclusion, head over to  Rock Creek Park this fall. With everything the DC area has to offer it can get awfully crowded, but a walk around the park can give you the drastic change when you’re looking for a small escape from the norm.

There are so many other ideas that you could check out when looking to add a little romance to your date. There are wonderful restaurants, bars, historical hotel lobbies, and several other memories that will meet every expectation you have. Let us know what some of your favorites  are as we always love the opportunity for another date night!

Cheers!
