First and foremost, remember that Memorial Day weekend is a time of remembrance. That said, there is no shortage of activities for you this Memorial Day weekend. From BBQs and pool openings to parades and brunches, there is plenty for you to fill your long weekend.

BBQ and Pool Openings!!! If you don’t plan on having a bbq and don’t have a pool, it’s time that you reach out to all of your friends and find out who does because it’s supposed to be a great weekend.

Sunday:

The Memorial Day Concert (free), held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, begins at 8 p.m.(gates opening at 5 p.m.) and will feature the National Symphony Orchestra.

Memorial Day:

To start off the day, head over to Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to see the wreath-laying ceremony around 11 a.m.

If you have a chance to take a break from the many BBQs you’re likely attending, make sure to check out the National Memorial Day Parade at 2 p.m. The parade kicks off around 7th street and runs along Constitution Ave, providing a variety of floats and helium balloons forĀ  the World War II Veterans Committee sponsored event.

Brunch (obviously there are many more):

There’s a chance you’ll be celebrating Memorial Day with a flurry of activity and are going to need some food to start off the day.

El Centro D.F.: Serving their bottomless brunch from 10:30am-3pm, for $35. You can take a look at their entire menu, but from everything we’ve heard it’s well worth it. Remember it’s more than just breakfast tacos at El Centro D.F.

El Centro-28

Grillfish: Serving brunch 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, featuring $1 local oysters and an oyster sampler platter. Will also be serving new brunch cocktails such as the Daydreamer ($10), made with Jalapeno infused tequila, Campari, cardamom bitters and fresh lime and the Rise n’ shine ($9) made with Avion Espresso, Agave cream and chilled coffee. The “Build Your Own Bloody” bar will also be available. Those that can’t make brunch can still take advantage of $1.50 oysters at the bar during the 4:00 – 7:00 pm during Grillfish’s “Off The Hook Happy Hour.”

Commissary: Serving brunch (including the Benedicts normally only available on Saturday & Sundays!) from 9:00 am- 4:00 pm. Chef Ben Tenner has also created an additional Brunch Benedict on special that day – the Pastrami Benedict (poached egg on an English muffin, thousand island hollandaise, pastrami). Guests are encouraged to use Commissary’s new Blue Star Breakfast Club app, which can be downloaded from either the Apple App Store or Google Play (search for “Commissary DC”). This gives users free coffee or tea with the purchase of a breakfast item. In addition, users will receive every 11th breakfast for free (benefits normally earned Monday-Friday 8:00 to 11:00 AM, but all Memorial Day breakfasts will be eligible!). Each user will receive a double stamp for a breakfast purchased on Memorial Day.
