Here is my advice for guys this holiday season, try a little harder. Don’t spend more money or try and get an even larger, more noticeable gift, just really pay attention this year. For many of you/us, we always try and find a lasting gift for the holiday season; jewelery which is presented over an expensive dinner is all too common. The problem is you’re probably going to be sitting in the same room as a dozen other people, pulling the same exact trick. No matter the length of the relationship you’re in, right now, she’s going to drop hints for you to pick up on. So, this year, find the gift she’ll never forget.

Since this really shouldn’t be difficult, here are some tips this holiday season.
1- Books- The latest James Patterson thriller might be something you get for your friend, but a first edition of an old book might be something that catches her off guard. We all remember the easier days of our youth, or can quickly recall them during certain moments, so a gift such as this could take them right back to those days and really leave a good mark.
2- Small tokens- Where was your first date? Are there significant locations or places that memorable things have happened at? If these places do exist, it shouldn’t be hard to remember what they are, and it shouldn’t be hard to come up with some ideas as a result. Obviously, wrapping up a beer mug from your first date isn’t going to take the cake, but tying that into a gift might show a more genuine attempt.
3- Special nights out- Have you been to a play or movie that they loved? Finding an actual script or copies of one aren’t always difficult to track down. If you find that these are costly, framing either the front page or a specific page from the play/movie might go over better than a $50-75 sweater.
4- A simple addition to any gift, is an ornament that represents something from the past year. This is especially symbolic for those relationships that are on the more serious side, as it might be the start of a tradition.

Remember, at some point over the holiday season, she’s going to talk to her friends about what each of them received. With a little bit of thought and listening, she’s going to remember your gift for a long time. This year, try and pull a little of Santa’s magic out for your special person.
